Attack of the Killer Asparagus

On a recent trip to New York City, my daughter and I wandered through Central Park and we noticed something odd growing around the base of a tree. Really odd. It looked like orange asparagus. We looked at it for short while, discussing what it might be, and then I noticed a kid’s sandal lying upturned amid the weird orange asparagus.

This being my daughter and I, we had theories. Alien theories. The orange spikes were part of an infestation and the sandal… Well, the sandal was all that remained of their first victim. Gruesome, I know.

What remains to be decided is if the asparagus is a poor disguise–perhaps our visitors are colour blind–or if they are simply the spores.

I’ll keep an eye on the news for reports of large, orange beings wreaking havoc in New York.
